Glossary entry
ATM operator fee
An ATM operator fee is a charge made by the company that owns an ATM for using its machine. It is separate from any fee charged by your own bank, and it may or may not be shown on screen before you confirm the withdrawal, so look at the confirmation screen carefully and cancel if the fee or currency is unclear. One withdrawal can carry several layers of cost, including the operator fee, your bank's fee, a foreign transaction fee and the exchange margin.
